Hello Fellow Travellers On the road to Mt Isa 10/7/18. I you’re planning to make a B line for Mt Isa from Winton, then in a word, don’t. This drive has many places of interest, but the three main ones would have to be
- Kynuna road house for breakfast or brunch.
- The Crocodile Dundee’s Walkabout creek hotel.
- The Chinamans Dam.
Look out for the road trains, they are now 4 trailers in length. If you go past one coming at you and you stay on 110 km/hr then you may get a big shunt from the air they are pushing , we have found that slowing to around 90 k’s and moving over a bit ( if safe) helps big time. Hi Everyone
My Mother would always say if you have nothing good to say then don’t say anything, so this will be short. We tried checking in at Tattersalls caravan park , mainly because it had good Google reviews but when we got there we found the staff to be very rude and arrogant. The rubbish bins were full and overflowing and the toilets had a horrible stench. Needless to say we didn’t stay there. We went further down the road to Pelican Caravan park and checked in there. Very very basic and not very inviting but it was clean and didn’t smell.

Did the Age of Dinosaurs walk and was left feeling a bit flat after all the hype we’d heard.
Fuel is same price as Sydney at the BP and if all caravan parks are full the information centre will open up the showground for you.

Hello Everyone
We just finished exploring Longreach. First impressions are lasting impressions and the Longreach tourist park certainly laid testament to that. This place is huge, so huge that the management wasn’t able to keep up with everyday maintenance.. Toilets and showers were average and camp kitchen really needs an upgrade. Kettle was black inside, the toaster would smoke from the stockpile of old breadcrumbs and the microwave was dirty.. All of which we carry on board but just checking for the purpose of this blog . The one saving grace was the onsite woolshed where one could buy a very nice meal and relax with some live entertainment.
We visited 2 tourist attractions, the Qantas founders museum where we did the full tour and would highly recommend this. The other was the Stockman’s hall of fame where we indulged in the dinner show.. Very entertaining but I was expecting a bit more horsemanship. Dinner [...]

We just finished exploring Charleville. If astronomy is your thing then the Cosmos centre is for you. Unfortunately We aren’t but each to their own. The other big attraction is the Bilby experience, it’s supposed to be well worth a look, but once again, not for us. We opted to just drive around and take in the local sites and do a bit of shopping. By midafternoon we were back at The Red Lizard camp ground where I got out the tool box and fixed the damaged light bar which Skippy damaged.
And now to rate the Red Lizard, I was going to deduct points for lack of grass, but this is the outback and the red dust and gravel is part of it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the warm friendly atmosphere and extremely clean amenities more than makes up for the lack of a bit of greenery. Very different to Cunnamulla [...]

Today we left this beautiful place called Warrego Riverside tourist park in Cunnamulla and continued our journey north, destination Charleville.
We give Cunnamulla and Warrego Riverside tourist park a 10 out of 10. Apparently its only Vodafone that has no reception but easily fixed by either purchasing a sim or going to the library for unlimited wifi.. Beautiful place, friendly and helpful owner (Judy).
We drove out the gate and had just settled back in top gear ,when a 6 foot Grey kangaroo decided to jump in front of us, he came from nowhere and we hit head on, thankfully he bounced of the bull bar rolled a couple of times and then hopped away. So glad we ordered the van with a full bull bar, if not, this would definitely be a different story.
Charleville is only approximately 200 kms from Cunnamulla, so we got to our campsite by 10 am. We [...]

We left Dubbo at 7.45am and headed off to Cunnamulla.
From Dubbo to Bourke was uneventful, the road trains being the main hazard. We stopped in Nyngan at the BP to fill up and was pleasantly surprised that the diesel was cheaper than Sydney.
Stopped at Bourke to get some basic supplies from IGA superstore and then stopped for lunch at the bakery around the corner. Nice pies, very clean and friendly, plus restrooms .
From Bourke to Cunnamulla you have to have your wits about you . The amount of road trains and trucks increased noticeably and the amount of Dead kangaroos, emus and other animals dead and alive needed your full concentration.
Other than that, the roads were good and some very nice old pubs and quaint townships along the way.

My name is Vernon and my wife’s name is Lily. We have just completed day one of a 5 week outback adventure which will take in Dubbo, Cunnamulla, Charleville, Longreach, Mt Isa, Barkley homestead, Tennants Creek, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, kynuna, Cooper Pedy, Port Augusta, Mildura, Euchuca, Colac Colac and back to Sydney, via Albion Park Rail to see Ben and the team.
We will report on road conditions, fuel availability and consumption, campsites we stayed at and give them a rating from 1-5 and of course take pics of the places we visit.
We are doing this in our long wheelbase VW Transporter Discoverer, which we bought new from Campervans Australia last September. Can’t fault the vehicle or the fit out, but the stand out feature has to be the dealings with Ben and the whole team. An absolute pleasure to deal with not to mention the ongoing support and friendship.
