So Close Yet So Far

My most recent Camping Adventure was to Gerroa on the NSW south coast only 20 mins drive from where I live it was So Close to travel to yet So Far from everyday reality once we set up camp.

Seven Mile Beach Holiday Park is a beautiful destination with spacious grassy powered sites right on the river.

It was late in May so we virtually had the place to ourselves.

The Parks Manager Leesa was very accommodating and we were pleased to learn that Fire Pits are permitted and available during the cooler months for a small fee.

We set up before dark and made our way to one of the local treasures a rustic little restaurant within walking distance called The Blue Swimmer. It was our friends 30th birthday so we celebrated by ordering most things on the menu to share.

Every dish was sensational, if you are a foodie then I suggest you visit this place at least once in your life, from the starters right through to desert we we’re continually wowed with simple yet very tasty food & friendly knowledgeable staff.

We wrapped up Friday night around the warmth of the fire with a few glasses of red then it was off to bed.

Saturday morning was clear but chilly, It was Emma’s 30th Birthday and the girls headed off to yoga at My Yoga Room in nearby Minnamurra, The boys checked the Surf whilst enjoying a coffee from a great view point back at the blue swimmer. The swell was up and wind was off shore creating some nice clean waves just across the road at seven mile beach.

I waxed up my board, wet suited up and headed out for a paddle, what a perfect morning, sun was shining, water was crystal clear and there were plenty of waves.

I worked up an appetite and was happy to find breakfast waiting for me back at the campsite. There was not a cloud in the sky as we sat by the river enjoying our breakfast and soaking up the sun.

The park is kept immaculately, nice green grass, clean amenities and plenty of activities to keep you entertained.

Mark & Emma’s daughter Evie loved The bird sanctuary & playground whilst other campers enjoyed the kayaks & canoes.

The afternoon was spent by the fire in our camp chairs, playing scattagories eating Mezze plates and laughing.

We kept it simple and life felt good, eating, drinking, enjoying nature and the beautiful surrounds of Gerroa.

More friends arrived, more games were played and we fired up the barbie on several occasions for continued rounds of food.

The night was chilly & we were thankful for our Kathmandu sleeping bags as we climbed into bed. It was quiet & comfy and we had a great night sleep. All our equipment worked well and we were very comfortable in our late model VW Camper from Campervans Australia.

Our friends accommodation was an Avan Sportliner pop up Caravan which was easy to tow, effortless to set up and had everything they needed for a weekend away.

Sunday was another sunny one, we enjoyed breakfast then began the pack up as we had an afternoon birthday party to attend close to home.

Although we were ready and had plans to set off early Leesa informed us we were welcome to a 4pm check out which we will definitely take advantage of next time.

We were fed, packed up, home and unpacked by lunchtime Sunday and all felt relaxed and refreshed as though we’d had a good break.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip so close to home yet so far from everyday reality and highly recommend it as well as the local businesses we visited :

  • Seven mile beach Holiday Park
  • Blue Swimmer restaurant Gerroa
  • & My Yoga Room Minnamurra.

If your visiting the area, do yourself a favour and spend some time here. Happy Camping.
